Abstract

Background: The performance of nurses becomes the defining factor in a hospital's accountability. The factors influencing nursing performance were categorized according to their perspectives: individual differences, situational influences, and regulation. Aim: assess factors that negatively affect the nurse's performance in obstetric ward. Design: A descriptive study design was utilized. Setting: Obstetrical Department located within Hospitals in the city of Ismailia. Subjects: comprised 50 nurses. Tools: An open-ended structured questionnaire served as the data collection instrument. Develop the questionnaire by drawing on observations from the literature presented. Results: factors impacting nursing practice include the lack of available equipment (82%), heavy workload (80%), hospital policies that do not support nursing tasks (68%), and salary issues related to minimum wage (50%). Conclusion and recommendations: It was crucial for the hospital management to be aware of this factor, as enhancing nurses' performance would also improve the hospital's image within the community.
